A Little Bit More

A Little Bit More

In the Olympics, the world’s greatest athletes compete. They come from every walk of life and different cultures representing the best of the best in a variety of sports.

If you’re like me, you experience a variety of feelings and emotions as you watch these athletes experience the thrill of victory as well as the agony of defeat. The Olympics stir our emotions and capture our hearts because deep inside we know these athletes have paid a tremendous price to earn the right to be Olympians.

The truth is, Winning is not easy. To become a champion in the Olympics, life, or business, you’ve got to do everything your competition does and a little bit more. You’ve got to wake up a little bit earlier and you’ve got to go to bed a little bit later. You’ve got to have a little bit bigger dream and you have got to stay a little bit more focused for just a little bit longer.

Olympic Champions understand it’s the extra little bit that the average person doesn’t do that gives them the winning edge. If they train with weights, instead of lifting 10 reps they lift 11 or 12. If they’re running to improve their cardio and they are totally exhausted and can’t seem to take another step, they will give every effort to take just one more step. It’s the final effort, the last lift, that extra step that is worth more than all the others put together.

Many people say, “I can’t give any more than I’m already giving” or “That’s the best I can do.” I say they’re wrong. Never accept the idea that there’s a limit to how far you can go. It’s your responsibility to shatter this type of thinking, explore the realm of the untested, and discover breakthrough opportunities. Why? Because change is happening at a record pace and unless you act you will be left behind.

In these Olympics, athletes are shattering past records in almost every event. Today, in life and in business the same is true. Yesterday’s world records are now today’s entry level requirements. You are either moving forward or fading fast.

The good news is that each of us has the potential to become a winner and achieve championship results. We become champions by setting unreasonable targets, outrageous goals, and optimistic deadlines. Most importantly, visualizing the end result is the key to greatness. All else being said, mental preparation is just as important as training for the physical aspects of the game.

Of course, massive action will get you massive results. Giving a little bit more can’t be a sometime thing; it has got to be an all time thing. Those who succeed at the highest level understand “it’s what you do every day that makes you who you’ll be someday.”

So, when you see elite athletes being crowned with Gold medals and full of enormous pride and satisfaction, remember they paid the ultimate price. They gave a little bit more than their competition …and that’s why they are the best in the world.
