Sales basics consist of prospecting, presenting, listening, asking the right questions, and closing. You have to practice these skills constantly. And no matter how long you’ve been in sales, you need to keep looking for ways to improve.
One way to improve your skills is to find out what actions the highest achievers in your field perform and then mimic their techniques. In psychology, this is called “modeling”. If you replicate the same actions as successful people, in the same manner, with the same attitude, beliefs, and emotion, you will get the same results.
I learned the basics of sales and public speaking by watching videos and listening to audio programs of the top salespeople and the most sought-after speakers. I practiced my presentations in front of a mirror with the same tone, gestures, and intensity as these individuals. I videotaped myself to determine which areas needed to improve and then practiced those skills and techniques over and over again.
Make a habit of reading the books, listening to the programs, attending the meetings, and networking with the successful individuals in your area of interest.
Once you’ve learned the basics, you need to get good at executing them. The only way to do that is — you guessed it — practice! Then practice some more! Eventually, you will MASTER THE TECHNIQUES, and they will become a natural part of your persona.
The will to win is the will to prepare and… Practice! Practice! Practice!
