When it comes to sales performance, I believe that initiative is the power to originate something and the drive to finish what you’ve started. Some people get started but never finish; others have great follow-through when they do get started but don’t initiate enough action to make a difference. When you can initiate and close, you have initiative.

Initiative gives you the power to win and to help others win. Individuals who take initiative commit themselves to completing their tasks—for their benefit and their team’s benefit.

By taking initiative, you become successful and ensure the success of your company and team. In doing so you do more than just survive, you thrive. Having the right products and services is important and timing is crucial to the selling process. However, initiative is what sets the top salespeople apart from those who are just average.

  • Spencer, You are 100% correct. You gotta ask. Many times Salespeople don't ask because of Fear and Lack of confidence. they are afraid of rejectoion. sales is a numbers gamne and the more no's you get the better your chance of getting a yes.
    Thanks for the input.

It blows my mind that some sales people will go 99 yards for the sale and forget the close. In my opinion you might as well have take yourself out of the game and stayed home. The success lies in that last yard. That last yard is where you find success in selling or the brutal reality of your time in the wrong career.

Maybe some salespeople over complicate that last yard of the game. Start to untangle it and drive to the touchdown and fill your bank account with money and your heart with joy and happiness. Make that last yard simple. Just ask for the business.
  • What do you mean; when you can iniative and close?
I got triggered by this sentence.
I always have initiave , the right services, the right product and timing is my issue.
I have the feeling that " Close " is the important word for me.
Can you explain 'close'; maybe my english is to bad.
  • Actually , what I said in that part was "Initiate and close". This means start something and... be able to follow through to a successful ending. It's easy to start something. Almost everyone is good at that. They key is to finish what you started.Thats what separates the Superstars from average performers.
